REGIONAL BASIC COURSE ON CHEMICAL WEAPONS MANAGEMENT INAUGURATES AT DHAKA

 

Dhaka,04 March: The Opening Ceremony of the Regional Basic Course on ‘Assistance and Protection against Chemical Weapons and Emergency Response to Chemical Incidents” for States Parties in Asia took place at Hotel Le Meridian, Dhaka on Sunday (04-3-2018). The course is scheduled from 04 March 2018 to 08 March 2018.

Commandant, Military Institute of Science and Technology Major General Md Abul Khair inaugurated the subject Course as Chief Guest. Representative from Director General, Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Senior Assistance and Protection Officer Mr Shahriar Khateri and a good number of personnel from Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC), Armed Forces, Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) and from various chemical industries/institutions were also present during opening ceremony.

In his speech, the Chief Guest also expressed his cordial thanks to the authority of OPCW and the BNACWC for arranging such an important training course in Bangladesh and declared the ‘Course Open’.

The participants will be trained on protection against Chemical Warfare Agents and emergency response to chemical incident or accident as first responders. This course will particularly enhance the capacity of the personnel of FSCD in case of any chemical incident or accident. More so, it is believed that arranging such important Regional Course will add value to the image of the our country globally.

Nine (09) participants from Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and thirty (30) local participants from different Chemical Industries, Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), Bangladesh Police and Bangladesh Armed Forces are participating in this training course. It may be mentioned here that, Bangladesh is organising this kind of regional course for the first time.
