BAF COLOUR AWARDED TO 3 Units of Base Bangabandhu


Dhaka, May 15: – Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc awarded BAF Colour to 5 Squardron, 8 Squadron and 71 Squadron at Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu, Kurmitola, Dhaka on Tuesday (15-05-2018).


On his arrival at the parade ground of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu, Chief of Air Staff was received by Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bangabandhu, Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Shafiqul Alam, BSP, ndc, fawc, psc.


The very first fighter squadron of BAF started its journey just after the Liberation war. The Motto of the pioneer Air Defence Fighter squadron is Ôm`v me©`v cÖ¯‘ZÕ. The main role of the squadron is to safeguard the sky of Bangladesh and counter air operation. This squadron is also playing a significant role ofpreparing operational pilots. Since its inception, this squadron plays a vital role of safeguarding the airspace of Bangladesh with utmost dedication.


8 Squadron started its operation in 1976 with the determination of safeguarding the sky of our motherland. The 4th generation multi-role MiG-29 fighter aircraft was inducted in this squadron in the year of 2000.  With the motto of “Vigilance, Valour, Victory” this squadron has been successfully conducting different activities since its inception.


71 squadron is playing a significant role. After achieving independence, the valiant Engineers and Airmen from technical trades made an abandoned AR-1 radar serviceable with their utmost sincerity and endeavor and this radar was commissioned as 4071 squadron in BAF. These three units received the BAF colour as recognition of their outstanding performance and extra ordinary efficiency.


During the Colour Award ceremony, Chief of Air Staff witnessed the parade at the parade ground of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu. The parade was commanded by Wing Commander Md Moniruzzaman Hawlader, psc . Later, a special munajat was offered for the preservation of Bangladesh Air Force Colour.


While addressing to all, Chief of Air Staff recalled the valiant contribution of the members of Air Force during the Liberation war. Chief of Air Staff expects that BAF will uphold the honour, dignity and pride of the Colour through their patriotism and professionalism.


Among others, Principal Staff Officers of BAF, Senior officers of three Services and others members of Bangladesh Air Force were present on the occasion.
