Chittagong, May 14: – Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc awarded BAFColour to No 1 Squardron, No 3 Squadron and Training Wing at Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque,Chatrogram on Monday (14-05-2018).


On his arrival at the parade ground of Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque, Chief of Air Staff was received by Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Zahurul Haque Air Commodore Murshed Hasan Siddiqui, BSP, psc.


1 Squadron, BAF started its journey through the significant contribution in the Liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. During the liberation war, after forming Kilo Flight at Dimapur, India on 28 September in 1971, the Squadron carried out 50 successful air attacks against the enemy which accelerated the victory. Since its inception, this Squadron has been extending its helping hand to Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) continuously at Chattogram hill tracks apart from its operational activities. Besides, extensive relief missions were conductedby the Squadron during devastating cyclone in 1991 and the catastrophic cyclone Sidr in 2007 which was aremarkable contribution to the nation. This squadron is continuously carrying out training activities to prepare operational pilots. These pilots are serving in UN mission and keeping our nation’s image high in international environment.


With the vision`Sada Jagroto Sada Prostut’, 3 Squadron BAF started its operation on 03 December in 1971 through a massive attack at Eastern Refinery and Bandar area in Chattogram by a Otter aircraft.Since its inception, the Squadron has been operating different missions like Air Transportation, Search & Rescue, Relief mission, Training mission, Para trooping etc with utmost dedication.  Besides, this Squadron of BAF has uplifted the image of Bangladesh in International arena by conducting relief missions in different countries affected by natural calamities. Many a times those are reflected in international media and earned good reputation for the nation.This Squadron is also making its significant contribution to prepare Aircrews and Technicians in BAF.


Training Wing, BAF was stablished on 26 July 1975 with the vision of forming a well-equipped Air Force and it was a vision of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. With the passage of time Training Wing, BAF has become an important training institution of BAF to build skilled Airmen. Since its inception, this institution is turning these airmen into an efficient workforce which in turn is the backbone of BAF.In addition to 321 from Bangladesh Army, 393 from Bangladesh Navy and 257 from Sri Lankan Air Force,more than 63000 of trainees have been completed their training from this institution. As a recognition of significant contribution, 1 Squadron, 3 Squadron and Training Wing have been awarded with BAF Colour.


During the Colour Award ceremony, Chief of Air Staff witnessed the parade at the parade ground of Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque.  The parade was commanded by Group Captain Md Abdullah-Al-Mahbub, afwc, psc.While addressing to all, Chief of Air Staff remembered the valiant contribution of the members of Air Force during the Liberation war. Chief of Air Staff expects that BAF will uphold the honour, dignity and pride of the Colour through their patriotism and professionalism.He also thanked all members of 1 Squadron, 3 Squadron and Training Wing for achieving prestigious BAF Colour and advised them to uphold the dignity of BAF Colour. Among others, Principal Staff Officers of BAF, Senior officers of three Services and other members of BAF were present.
