A TRANSIT OF MERCURY’S SHADOW OVER THE SUN ON MONDAY

Dhaka, 5 May:- A transit of Mercury’s shadow over the Sun will occur on 09-05-2016, Monday. The Mercury’s shadow will touch the outer edge of the Sun’s eastern part at 17 hours 12 minutes 19 seconds BST and will enter in the inner edge of the Sun’s eastern part at 17 hours 15 minutes 30 seconds BST. The Mercury’s shadow will stay in the middle of the Sun’s south-south-western part at 20 hours 57 minutes 25 seconds BST. The Mercury’s shadow will touch the inner edge of the Sun’s south-western part at 00 hours 39 minutes 11 seconds BST of 10-05-2016 and will cross the outer edge of the Sun’s south-western part at 00 hours 42 minutes 23 seconds BST. When the Mercury’s shadow will stay in the middle of the Sun’s south-south-western part then the least angular distance between the Mercury’s shadow and the Sun will be 5 minutes 18.5 seconds.

              This transit will be visible in all areas of Bangladesh on 09-05-2016 if the sky remains clear. It will start after 1700 BST and will last till the sunset in this country.

              The Mercury’s shadow will touch the outer edge of the Sun’s eastern part for the first time to the south of Faci town of Niger of Africa at 11 hours 57 minutes 35 seconds LMT of 09-05-2016 and will enter in the inner edge of the Sun’s south-west part for the first time to the south-west of the same town at 11 hours 57 minutes 30 seconds LMT of same day. The Mercury’s shadow will stay in the middle of the Sun’s south-south-eastern part for the first time in the Caribbean Sea to the east of British Virgin Islands at 11 hours 56 minutes 33 seconds LMT of 09-05-2016. The least angular distance between the Mercury’s shadow and the Sun will be 5 minutes 18.5 seconds only at this place. The Mercury’s shadow will touch the inner edge of the Sun’s south-western part for the last time to the south-east of Ixtapa town of Mexico of North America at 11 hours 55 minutes 35 seconds LMT of 09-05-2016 and will cross the outer edge of the Sun’s south-western part for the last time to the south of the same town at 11 hours 55 minutes 35 seconds LMT of same day.
